Last chance to see SAYBIA on Funen

Saybia really has something to offer, so give them a chance at the Danish music market. This was what Fyens Stiftstidende’s rock reviewer wrote after having attended a concert with the band from Nyborg at the venue, which in the spring of 2000 was called Rytmeposten.

And Saybia got their chance. The band signed a contract with record company EMI the following year, and was one of the bands that P3 really took to its heart. That meant that the boys from Nyborg in record time got a huge audience for their grandiose and melancholy pop, which later appeared on the debut album “The Second You Sleep”.

I remember a marvellous concert with Saybia at Open Air in Horsens in 2002, where the band played cover tracks along the way to get the time to go. And even ended with playing of the title song a second time as encore. They had simply no more songs in baggage. Yet I thought that this band, despite their bit too much whining, had something special to offer. Not least because of lead singer Søren Huss, who with his fantastic vocal must be attributed to the main part of success, although the other members of course have borne their share of firewood for the great flaming pop-fire.

Since then, the repertoire has grown steadily, although there has only been released two more albums: “These Are The Days” (2004) and “Eyes on the Highway” (2007).

The band has gained great success outside Denmark’s borders, and especially in Germany, Belgium and most of all Holland, where they have been heavily exposed. Saybia is without comparison the band from Funen, who sold the most albums and the debut album alone sold an impressive 76,000 copies in just two months. A task, the newly selected “Årets Kulturnavn”, The Kissaway Trail, will have hard to beat.

Fyens Stiftstidende has since 2001 been brought more than 300 notes, articles and interviews with the band. Unfortunately, the band did not wish to give an interview with the newspaper for personal reasons, which of course would love to have the explanation of why the band on break right now and not least, if it continues forever, as some media have predicted.

Saybia began their first Tour of Denmark magazine in 2002, and thus ending the ring Saturday night when it may be the last time that Saybia acting on the home island. That alone should get fans and music lovers to redeem the ticket.

Siden da er repertoiret vokset støt, selv om det kun er blevet til yderligere to plader: “These Are The Days” (2004) og “Eyes on the Highway” (2007).
