Review: SAYBIA – No Sound From The Outside

Solid comeback: Saybia is back in great shape

Saybia is back after an eight years album break and the guys from Funen are not only returned undiminished, but actually strengthened.

After the two great Danish-languaged solo albums, you have get used to hear Søren Huss express himself in English again, but already in the delicate dampened opening number “Airplanes and Submarines” the magic arises. The season suits the song, and melancholy and melody creeps elegantly into your skin.

On the majority of “No Sound from the Outside” the band has stepped back from the grand gestures, that have characterized the previous releases, without giving in on sensitivity and pace, while the songwriting in return are generally top throung the album.

The result is a balanced album with an international cut, where you clearly can feel the desire for the work. The band has grown as songwriters and musicians and has simply made their best album so far. The delicious production matches the songs’ quality and more mature sound, the band has found. Just listen to a dark track like “Down” and the rocking “It’s Been Way Too Long”.

There are generally several great tracks, although they needs to be repeated to really unfold. No, No Sound From The Ouside has definitely been worth the wait, and as long as it does not put an end to more solo albums from Huss’ side, Saybia is hopefully back to stay.

It’s Been Way Too Long.
